Paige Bueckers is embracing a leadership role with the Dallas Wings, aiming to improve their performance. After missing four games due to concussion protocol and illness, she returned to score 35 points in a 93-80 loss to the Phoenix Mercury. This achievement made her the fourth rookie in Dallas history to score over 30 points in a game, following Arike Ogunbowale's feat in 2019.
Bueckers' impressive performance marked a career high, surpassing her previous best of 21 points. She started strong by making her first six shots and finished with an impressive 13-of-19 shooting record. Despite her efforts, the Wings suffered their sixth consecutive defeat. The team is currently struggling, holding a 1-10 record and sitting at the bottom of the WNBA standings.

Despite being a rookie, Bueckers is keen on taking up leadership responsibilities. She acknowledges the challenges but finds it rewarding to focus on processes rather than results. "It's challenging but very rewarding in a sense of you just being super process-oriented and not result-oriented," she stated.
Bueckers emphasises building a culture with set standards for the team. She believes that maintaining discipline and sticking to these standards will eventually lead to positive outcomes. "The results will follow and will come as we continue to stay disciplined in who we are every single day," she explained.
Bueckers aims to lead by example and through communication, fostering team chemistry both on and off the court. She stresses the importance of having difficult conversations and understanding teammates personally to strengthen bonds within the team.
The Wings are set to face Las Vegas Aces on Friday, hoping for a turnaround in their current form. Bueckers' leadership could be crucial as they strive for improvement amidst ongoing challenges this season.
