Pak 44 for 3 in 15 overs in reply to Windies 241/9
Kingston, Mar 13 (UNI) Daren Powell struck twice as Pakistan were reeling at 44 for three after 15 overs while chasing a 242-run target set by the West Indies in the World Cup opener at Sabina park here today.
Skipper Inzamam-ul Haq (3, 19b) and middle order mainstay Mohd Yousuf (12, 27b) were occupying the crease as the hosts looked in commanding position in the Group D match.
Powell sent back both the openers cheaply with Imran Nazir (6) edging the bowler to wicket-keeper Denesh Ramadin while Mohd Hafeez (11) giving Lara an easy catch.
Veteran Younis Khan (9) fell to Jerome Taylor.
Earlier put into bat, the hosts notched up a healthy 241 for 9 with Marlon Samuels hitting a timely 63.
His 70-ball effort and a 91-run crucial fourth-wicket partnership with skipper Brian Lara (37) steered the hosts clear after they were in troubled waters with three wickets down and just 77 on scoreboard in 25 overs.
