Pakistan unlikely to host 2011 World Cup

By Super Admin

London, Mar 3 (ANI): In the wake of Tuesday's terror attack on the Sri Lankan cricketers in Lahore, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has expressed serious doubts over the fitness of Pakistan to stage any of the 2011 World Cup matches.

"I believe the world cup will be staged in the Indian subcontinent. How much of it, if any, will be staged in Pakistan remains to be seen," said David Morgan, ICC president.

At least eight Sri Lankan cricket players were reportedly injured on Tuesday morning when some unidentified persons opened firing at the visitors near the Gaddafi stadium here.

Morgan said World Cup security was very important and now the Pakistan board will have to think very carefully about the security.

"Things will have to change dramatically in Pakistan in my opinion if any of the games are to be staged there," he added.

The 2011 World Cup is due to be jointly hosted by India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, the four cricket-obsessed Test nations that make up the sport's financial nerve centre. (ANI)
