Pakistan are playing their first home match in eight years as they host Cambodia in the second leg of the World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers Round 1 on Tuesday (October 17). The match is being played at the Jinnah Sports Stadium in Islamabad.
The FIFA No. 197 will also be the first time in 16 years that Pakistan will host a World Cup qualifiers match, when they last hosted Iraq in a humiliating 0-7 loss in Lahore. However, the morale won't be down this time around for the team, who just ended a 12-match losing streak after holding Cambodia for a 0-0 draw away.
The new-found enthusiasm also comes with former India coach Stephen Constantine at the helm of the Men in Green as the country is optimistic of creating history by reaching the second round of the World Cup qualifiers.
Pakistan squad is mostly comprised of players from the domestic league and has few players plying their trade abroad, including defender Easah Suliman. A victory on the day would place in the first group stage, wehre they would face Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Tajikistan.
Combodia, on the other hand, are a ranked at World No. 177 and are reeling from the shock draw few days ago in Phnom Penh, against their unlikely opponents. Prior to the World Cup qualifier match, they played two friendlies in September. They galloped Macau 4-0 after being held for a 1-1 draw by Hong Kong.
