Doha, Nov 23: Indian cueist Pankaj Advani established his dominance in the world of Billiards by securing his fifth grand double. Advani exhibited an overwhelming performance against his compatriot Sourav Kothari in the final of the IBSF World Billiards Championship (point format), held in Doha.
He outperformed Kothari with a 5-0 victory, thereby extending his world title tally to a whopping 27.

In a repeat of the world championship final, Pankaj Advani demonstrated his supremacy over Kothari. Advani, aged 38, had previously defeated Kothari in the long-format 1000-point game. He has already claimed victories in the previous editions held in 2005, 2008, 2014, and 2018. Besides these accolades, he also bagged the snooker double in 2015.
The short format of the championship was a best-of-9 contest of 150-point frames. Despite Kothari's strong start in the first frame, Advani made a spectacular comeback from 6-91 with an unfinished break of 144, leading 1-0. In the subsequent two frames, Advani continued his heavy scoring by making another two-century break, taking the score to 3-0.
With just two frames to go, it was clear that Advani was in control of the game. Although the last two frames did not see any century breaks, the Bangalore-based cueist managed to manufacture useful breaks of 81 and 77 to conclude the match and clinch the championship.
Following his triumphant win, Pankaj Advani will now take a short break at home for ten days before he sets off for Chennai. He is scheduled to participate in the upcoming National Billiards and Snooker Championship.
With his impressive performance in the IBSF World Billiards Championship, Pankaj Advani has once again fortified his position in the world of cue sports. His winning streak of grand doubles and the world championship titles is a testament to his prowess and dedication to the sport.
