Pankaj Advani wins ISBF title

Bangalore, Sep 5 (UNI) World Billiards and Snooker Champion Pankaj Advani lifted his fifth world title defeating ace cueist Geet Sethi 6-1 in the ONGC ISBF World Billiards Champion (Points Format) played at KSBA Hall here today.

The 23-year-old Bangalore lad overwhelmed the eight-time world champion 150-90, 151-0, 150-24, 150-0, 86-150, 150-72 and 150-12 in the second session with an immaculate show of fine temperament and skill. Earlier he had ran up a commanding lead of 4-0 in the first session.

The IBSF 2005 winner, cruised to an authoritative win in the second session with Geet making a desperate bid to win the fifth frame 150-86.

Geet looked a little nervous after a remarkable turnaround overcoming a 0-3 deficit in the semi-final against Devender Joshi yesterday.

''I was a little nervous when Geet took the fifth frame.

However, I regrouped my concentration well and succeeded and in winning the sixth,'' Pankaj said after the match.

It would have been the other way if Geet, known for his fight backs, did not have a break at 76 in the sixth game. Pankaj, who had to his credit 63 in the first visit, returned to finish the frame by scoring an unfinished break of 87.
