India's Raman Sharma set a new Asian Games record to clinch the gold medal in men's 1500m T38 event in Para Asian Games 2023 at the HSC Stadium in Hangzhou, China on Friday (October 27).
Sharma bagged gold with a games record-breaking time of 4:20.80 in T37 category, while Timor-Leste's Teofilo Freitas also set a games record in T38 category to claim silver with a timing of 4:21.75. Japan's Takfumi Igusa won bronze with a timing of 4:29.42.

Sharma's gold took India's tally to 92 medals as archer Sheetal Devi as well as shuttlers Pramod Bhagat and Thulasimathi Murugesan also won a yellow metal to start off day five on a positive note for India at the Para Asian Games 2023.

India's gold medal count at the Para Asian Games 2023 now stands at 22, taking the country back to fourth place from a eighth place finish yesterday in the medal tally. India has so far won 22 gold, 27 silver and 43 bronze.
Earlier on Thursday (October 26), shooter Sidhartha Babu also set a games record to win gold in mixed 50m rifle prone event, while several others also landed medals to take India past their best-ever haul of 72 medals, which they had achieved in 2018 Jakarta Games.
