On the cusp of Republic Day 2025, India's para-archer Harvinder Singh received the esteemed Padma Shri award.
This accolade was in recognition of his gold medal triumph at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, a victory that underscored his significant contributions to Indian sports.

The Padma Shri is the fourth in the hierarchy of civilian awards in India, preceded by the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, and Padma Bhushan, and represents a high level of honor for individuals excelling in various fields.
Harvinder Singh made history at the Paris Paralympics by clinching the gold medal in para-archery, marking India's first-ever gold in the sport. Competing in the men's individual recurve open event, he delivered a dominant performance, securing a 6-0 win against Poland's Lukasz Ciszek.
Prior to his remarkable victory in Paris, Singh had already left a mark on the world stage with his bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, which was India's inaugural medal in Paralympic archery. Although he narrowly missed out on a second medal in Paris, falling in the mixed team recurve bronze medal match alongside teammate Pooja, his consistent excellence has solidified his position as a pioneering figure in Indian para-archery.
