Chess: Parimarjan Negi to head Indian challenge

Mumbai, Dec 11: Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi will lead the Indian challenge in the forthcoming Asian junior chess championship, to be held at Goregaon sports club here from December 13.

The tournament is being organised by Venus Chess Academy under the aegis of Maharashtra chess association, a release issued here today stated.

Eight countries have confirmed their participation in the Championship, which has attracted 80 entries in both Boys as well as Girls section.

India's No 2 and 3, International Women masters, Kiran Manisha Mohanti (Orissa) and Saumya Swaminathan (Maharashtra) will head Indian Girls' challenge in this nine round meet to be played on Swiss system.

It will be Parimarjan Negi's first championship in India outside Delhi after he became the youngest Grandmaster in the World. He holds the Elo rating of 2533 points and will be the top seed here.

Women's Grandmaster Corke of Hong Kong will be the top seed in this star studded event in which the champions will get the norms of Grandmasters in both Boys and Girls section respectively, the release added.
