A video released from the practice venue shows Manu practising while enjoying some Bollywood music in the background. Manu will be participating in three events at the Paris Olympics: sports pistol, air pistol, and the mixed event.
The Jhajjar (Haryana) girl faced immense pressure and technical challenges during her debut Olympic appearance in Tokyo 2020, failing to qualify for the finals in all three events she participated in.
Manu entered Tokyo in excellent form and as the World No. 1, but she left without any medals. Following this, she went two years without winning any international medals, which finally came to an end at the shooting World Cup in March last year.
Coached by Olympian Jaspal Rana, Manu Bhaker is prepared to face the challenge of the Paris Olympics. Her impressive showing at the recent Olympic Selection Trials, where she surpassed the Asian Games champion by a considerable margin, showcases her commitment and talent.
In the first 25m women's pistol shooting Olympic selection trial at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi, the 22-year-old scored a near-perfect 47, which was six points higher than the existing World Record held by South Korea's Yang Jin.
The 22-year-old achieved this by scoring seven rounds of perfect 5s and three rounds of 4s. It's important to note that trial scores do not count for world records since it is not an international event.
She finished eight points ahead of Rhythm Sangwan, who scored 39 points. Abhidnya Patil secured the third position with a score of 37, while Simranpreet Kaur came in fourth. Esha Singh, who had won four medals at the Asian Games the previous year, dropped to fifth place after qualifying.
The NRAI swapped a pistol quota for a women's trap shooter after Manu excelled in the women's 10m air pistol and 25m pistol trials, opening up a spot for shotgun events. Shreyasi Singh received the freed quota and will participate in the women's trap event.
