Paris, Jul 29: Indian shooter Ramita Jindal's journey in the women's 10m air rifle event at the Paris 2024 Olympics ended as she finished seventh in the finals.
Ramita, the 19-year-old shooter, secured a spot in the finals after finishing fifth in the qualification round with a score of 631.5. The top eight shooters from both the men's and women's categories advanced to the final round.

During the final, Ramita started strong with a series of shots: 10.3, 10.2, 10.6, 10.9, and 10.5, placing her in fourth position after the first five shots. At this stage, China's Huan Yuting was leading with a score of 53.0. However, after the next five shots, Ramita dropped to seventh place, following a 9.7, while Yuting continued to dominate, scoring 105.5.
In the subsequent series, Ramita faced a tough battle to avoid elimination. She managed to climb back to sixth place with a 10.4 and 10.5, pushing Sagen Maddalena down to seventh.
However, Maddalena soon regained her position with a 10.4, while Ramita hit a 10.2. Kazakh shooter Alexandra Le fell to seventh after scoring 9.7, leaving Ramita tied with France's Oceanne Muller at 145.3 points.
In a tense shoot-off, Muller scored 10.8 under immense pressure, while Ramita managed a 10.5, resulting in her elimination and a seventh-place finish in the women's 10m air rifle final. Despite the strong start and commendable performance, Ramita concluded her event with a total score of 145.3 and came seventh.
Ramita, a rifle shooter from Ladwa in the Kurukshetra district, belongs to the Jindal family. She began her career in rifle shooting at the age of 13 while she was in the 8th grade. Ramita started practising at Karan Shooting Academy in Ladwa, initially training for 1 to 2 hours.
After a year, she increased her practice hours. She attended Aggarsain Public School in Kurukshetra in the morning and trained at the shooting range in the evening.
Arjun Babuta enters finals
Arjun Babuta earned his entry into the final round by finishing seventh in the qualification round on Sunday. A 25-year-old from Chandigarh, Arjun shot a series of 105.7, 104.9, 105.5, 105.4, 104.0, and 104.6, achieving a total score of 630.1 points, meeting the cutoff for the final round. The 10m Air Rifle Men's Final featuring Arjun Babuta will begin at 3:30 pm.
