Paris, Aug 8: Arshad Nadeem's performance in the men's javelin final at the Paris Olympics 2024 has captivated the world.
The Pakistani athlete, who is both a fierce rival and a close friend of Neeraj Chopra, delivered a stunning throw of 92.97 meters in his second attempt, breaking the long-standing Olympic record of 90.57 meters set by Norway's Andreas Thorkildsen at the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

Nadeem's first attempt in the final ended in a foul, but he quickly rebounded with his second throw, which shattered the Olympic record and marked his personal and season best. This incredible achievement has helped him secure his first Olympic gold medal.
In his third attempt, Nadeem continued to showcase his consistency and form with a throw of 88.72 meters, further solidifying his lead in the competition. Despite this strong follow-up, his second-round record remains the highlight of the event, setting a high bar for his competitors. In his final throw of the evening, the Pakistani athlete threw 91.79m to stamp his authority at the grandest stage.
Tokyo 2020 gold medalist Neeraj Chopra came second place with a season-best throw of 89.45 meters. Chopra, known for his clutch performances, had just one legal throw of the evening out of six and still managed to clinch the silver to become the only Indian track and field athlete to win back-to-back medals at the Olympics.
However, Nadeem's early dominance almost made it clear that the road to gold would be challenging for Neeraj because the Indian is yet to breach the 90m mark in his career.
With more throws left in the competition, Arshad Nadeem's extraordinary performance placed him well ahead of the pack as not every day you see an athlete breaching the 90m mark at such ease.
Arshad Nadeem's record-breaking performance at the Paris Olympics 2024 has not only made him a national icon but also a source of inspiration for aspiring athletes across Pakistan and beyond.
