Paris 2024: Manu Bhaker on Sunday (July 28) scripted history by becoming the first-ever Indian women to win an Olympics medal in shooting. The 22-year-old's bronze medal in the Women's 10m Air Pistol also opened India's account at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Manu Bhaker finished with a total score of 221.7. She shot 10.1,10, 10.1, 10.3 in her final four shots. This is India's first Olympics medal in a shooting event since 2012. Vijay Kumar and Gagan Narang won medals in shooting events in 2012 London Olympics.

Rajyavardhan Singh (2004) and Abhinav Bindra (2008) are the only two Indians to win an Olympics medal in shooting. Three years after a series of heartbreaks in Tokyo, one of India's most celebrated and talented shooters fulfilled her dreams, bringing glory to the nation.
Notably, Manu Bhaker had failed to qualify for the final of any of three shooting events she participated at the Tokyo Olympics. The Haryana-born shooter even thought of giving up the sport altogether last year.
Here's is how Twitter reacted after Manu Bhaker became first Indian athlete to win medal at Paris Olympics.
“During the match, I was just thinking about 'Bhagavad Gita’ and Arjuna because I read Bhagavad Gita before the match,” Manu Bhaker said after winning the bronze.
Bhaker expressed happiness after opening India's medal tally but stated that it was just the beginning of what could be a very memorable Olympics for the Indian contingent. She also stated that she would now be focussing on her other shooting events in Paris.
