By Triyasha Chatterjee

The Champs-Élysées, known as the world's most beautiful boulevard, has become even more enchanting during the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024.

Stretching nearly two kilometres from the Place de la Concorde to the majestic Arc de Triomphe, this historic boulevard transforms into a vibrant epicentre of Olympic excitement and Parisian elegance.

During the Paris Olympics, the Champs-Élysées is more than just a street; it's a living, breathing celebration of sports, culture, and the timeless spirit of Paris. From the thrill of competition to the joy of exploration, it offers an unforgettable experience that captures the essence of the City of Light.

Our correspondent in Paris Paridhi Bhanot, who has been in the French Capital since the start of the showpiece event, took a trip to the iconic boulevard to understand the mood and colour, where she spoke to the people about the iconic location and its beauty.

"This a beautiful place and all the shopping around here is more wonderful, " said Ronnie Joe who has been to four Olympics as a member of the International Sports Chaplain speaking to myKhel.

"Nearly 55 years ago, I read about Champs-Élysées in my French history class. At that time I only learned about how to say its name and now that I see it, it is beautiful " added another elderly woman who was a a member of the International Sports Chaplain as well.

Imagine walking along the Champs-Élysées, with its tree-lined promenades adorned in the colours of the Olympic rings. The air is filled with anticipation as athletes and spectators from around the globe converge here. The avenue's blend of grandeur and charm provides a stunning backdrop for the world's greatest sporting event.

During the Olympics, the Champs-Élysées is not just a spectator's paradise but also a hub of activities and celebrations. Cyclists in the Tour de France sprint down the avenue in a breathtaking finish at the Arc de Triomphe, while marathon runners traverse its length, cheered on by enthusiastic crowds. The avenue itself becomes a stage for sporting triumphs and human perseverance.

Beyond the athletic feats, the Champs-Élysées offers a feast for the senses. Shoppers can indulge in the luxury boutiques of Louis Vuitton, Cartier, and Guerlain, while food lovers savour gourmet delights at Michelin-starred restaurants like Ledoyen and L'Atelier Étoile. For a sweet treat, Ladurée's famous macarons are a must-try, adding a touch of Parisian sweetness to the Olympic experience.

"My favourite place is Champs-Élysées because it's beautiful and then there is shopping and I love it, " said Anyala who was visiting the city from Mexico. However, she was concerned about the crowd in the French Capital.

As the sun sets, the avenue takes on a magical glow. The Champs-Élysées is illuminated with twinkling lights, creating a romantic and festive atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy cocktails at chic bars, dine al fresco at charming cafes, and dance the night away at exclusive clubs. The avenue's vibrant nightlife adds to the sense of celebration that permeates the city during the Olympics.

Cultural offerings abound as well. The Grand Palais hosts Olympic-themed exhibitions, and the avenue's cinemas screen inspirational films celebrating athletic achievements. Theatres like Théâtre Marigny and Théâtre des Champs-Élysées present contemporary plays, providing a cultural counterpoint to the sporting events.

On the first Sunday of each month, the Champs-Élysées becomes a pedestrian-only zone, allowing visitors to stroll, cycle, and picnic without the interruption of traffic. This initiative, particularly enchanting during the Olympics, lets everyone soak in the beauty and ambience of the avenue in a relaxed and leisurely manner.
