India's shooting sensation, Manu Bhaker, is set to pursue her third medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, beginning her quest in the women's 25m pistol precision event on Friday, August 2.
She will be joined by another youngster Esha Singh who will also look to leave her mark in her Olympic debut. Ahead of the event let us take a look at the rules and the format of the 25m pistol precision event.

In the precision stage, each shooter fires a total of 30 shots at a target placed 25 meters away. These shots are divided into six series of five shots each, with a time limit of five minutes per series. The scoring is based on accuracy, with each shot's score ranging from 1 to 10 points, depending on its proximity to the center of the target.
Following the precision stage is the rapid-fire stage, where shooters must demonstrate speed and accuracy. This stage also involves 30 shots, but the shooting is divided into six series of five shots each.
Each series is further broken down into three sub-stages: in the first sub-stage, shooters have eight seconds to fire five shots; in the second sub-stage, they have six seconds; and in the final sub-stage, they have just four seconds. The rapid-fire stage is particularly challenging as it requires quick reflexes and consistent accuracy under time pressure.
The scores from both stages are combined to determine the total score for each shooter. The top eight shooters from the qualification round advance to the finals, scheduled for Saturday, August 3.
In the finals, the scoring resets, and the competition consists of an elimination format where shooters are gradually eliminated after a series of shots until the top two competitors face off for the gold and silver medals.
Earlier in the competition, Manu clinched a bronze medal in the women's 10m air pistol event. Additionally, she, alongside Sarabjot Singh, earned another bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. Her stellar performance has already made waves, setting high expectations for the upcoming event.
