Paris, Jul 31: On a day marked by both celebration and competition, Indian table tennis star Sreeja Akula clinched a remarkable victory in Round 3 of the Women's Singles event at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The match, held on Wednesday (July 31), saw Akula overcome a spirited challenge from Singapore's Zeng Jian in a thrilling six-game encounter.

The win not only advanced Akula to the Round of 16 but also served as a memorable birthday gift, as she turned 26 on the day of the match. She became only the second Indian woman paddler to make it to the pre-quarters of an Olympic event.
The contest began with high stakes and intense energy, as both players showcased their skills and determination. Zeng Jian, a formidable opponent from Singapore, managed to edge out Akula in the opening game with a close 11-9 victory.
Despite a shaky start, Akula demonstrated resilience and composure, using her experience to battle back. The second game was a testament to her fighting spirit, as she clawed her way back to win 12-10, levelling the match.

Despite the setback, Akula's determination remained unwavering. She entered the sixth game with a focused mindset, matching Zeng point for point. As the game progressed, both players exhibited extraordinary skill and strategic play, pushing the score to a tie-breaker.
In the crucial moments, Akula displayed exceptional nerve and precision, clinching the game 12-10 and sealing the match with a 4-2 overall score.
