India's campaign for the Paris Olympics 2024 kicks off a day ahead of the opening ceremony, with archers taking the spotlight in the individual ranking rounds. These rounds are crucial as they determine the seeding for the main event.
Although Jio Cinema and Sports18 are the official streaming and telecast partners for the Paris Olympics in India, the Archery ranking round was not live-streamed in the country.

Leading the Indian archery team once again is the seasoned archer, Deepika Kumari, who will be competing in her fourth Olympics. Joining her are 26-year-old Ankita Bhakat and 18-year-old Bhajan Kaur, both making their Olympic debuts. On the men's side, the trio of Dheeraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai, and Pravin Ramesh Jadhav will represent India.
The ranking round involves each archer shooting 72 arrows, split into two halves. The total scores from these arrows determine their seeding for the final event. Moreover, the combined scores of the team members decide the seeding for the men’s and women’s team events. For the mixed team event, the seeding is based on the best individual scores from both the men's and women’s categories.
The top four teams will directly advance to the quarter-finals, while the next eight teams will compete in the Round of 16. In the mixed team event, only the top 16 seeds will qualify, making the ranking round a pivotal phase of the competition.
The significance of the ranking round cannot be overstated. Archers can score a maximum of 720 points, and their total scores rank them from highest to lowest. This ranking is crucial as it determines their seeding for the knockout stages. The top 32 archers in the men’s and women’s categories will have a relatively smoother path. The No. 1 seed will face the No. 64 seed, No. 2 will face No. 63, and so forth.
Additionally, the ranking round will determine the team rankings for both men and women, with teams ranked from 1 to 12 based on the combined individual scores of their members. This phase will also establish the 16 pairs that qualify for the mixed team event, combining the highest men’s and women’s scores from each country.
