The qualification round saw China's Lihao Sheng lead with an outstanding score of 631.7 points, tied with Marcelo Julian Gutierrez of Argentina. Italy's Danilo Dennis Sollazzo followed in third place, rounding out a highly competitive field. Despite the strong competition, Babuta's consistent performance throughout the qualification round has kept India's hopes alive for a medal in this event.

Unfortunately, Sandeep Singh, the other Indian shooter in the contest, narrowly missed out on the final. Singh finished in 12th place with a score of 629.3 points, just shy of the cutoff for the top eight. His performance, though commendable, wasn't enough to see him through to the final round.

Arjun Babuta will compete in the 10m air rifle final on Monday, July 29, 2024, at 3:30 PM IST at the Châteauroux Shooting Centre. The final is known for its rigorous and nerve-wracking format, designed to test the precision and mental fortitude of the shooters.

What is the format of 10m men's air rifle at Olympics?

The final match consists of two series of three shots each, fired within 150 seconds per series. Following these initial rounds, 14 single shots are fired, each within 50 seconds. This brings the total to 20 shots. After the first eight shots, the lowest-ranking finalist is eliminated. Subsequently, elimination occurs after every two shots until only the gold and silver medalists remain.

In case of a tie, the tiebreaker rules are meticulous, considering the highest number of inner tens first. If the tie persists, the scores of the last 10-shot series are reviewed, working backward until a clear winner is determined. If necessary, the scores are further compared on a shot-by-shot basis using inner tens and decimal ring scores
