Bengaluru, December 13: South Korea's Inbee Park has confirmed her title defence of HSBC Women's World Championship to be held from March 1 to 4 at the New Tanjong Course, Sentosa Golf Club, Singapore.

The 11th edition of the tournament, which was formerly known as the HSBC Women's Champions, is a regular feature on the LPGA calendar and also has the hard-earned reputation of being Asia's major.

The past champions include virtually the crème de la crème of LPGA like Mexico's Lorena Ochoa, Australia's Karrie Webb, Japan's Ai Miyazato and the USA's Paula Creamer.

The ticket sales for the tournament has already started.

Just before the HSBC event, the Sentosa course will also host the inaugural Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific tournament, a new R&A Asia Pacific Golf Confederation sanctioned event from February 21 to 24.

The six leading Singaporean amateurs will be invited to compete in the tournament for the opportunity to earn a place in the HSBC Women's World Championship.

The winner of the Amateur Asia-Pacific tournament also gets a direct entry to the Women's World Championship.

Park, who is a seven-time Major winner and reigning Olympic champion sounded upbeat about her title defence prospects.

"This event is a very special one to all of us on the LPGA. I think it is a really nice link up with the Women's Amateur Asia- Pacific tournament for the winner to qualify and it's a great idea from HSBC and the R&A. I look forward to seeing which exciting new young talent makes it through to the HSBC Women's World Championship and to meeting her in March."

LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan shared Park's views: "The HSBC Women's World Championship is a world-class event that draws the world's best female golfers to Singapore. This event is a true favorite on Tour - for top players, fans and even commissioners!"
