Parnevik boosted by home comforts at Ginn Classic

MIAMI, Oct 24 (Reuters) In-form Swede Jesper Parnevik, having shrugged off early-season injuries, is in high spirits for this week's Ginn Classic where he will have the benefit of home comforts.

The Florida resident, who lives close to the hosting Tesoro Club in Port St. Lucie, has retained his playing privileges for next season with top-20 finishes in his last three PGA Tour starts.

''It feels good and it's certainly very nice to stay at home this week,'' Parnevik told reporters Yesterday during preparation for Thursday's opening round. ''I only live about 25 minutes from here.'' The 42-year-old, whose last PGA Tour victory came at the 2001 Honda Classic, secured his card for next season after being edged out in a playoff for the Texas Open three weeks ago.

He has since climbed to 89th in the money list with earnings of 1,036,056 dollars this season, comfortably inside the top 125, to maintain full eligibility for 2008.

''That makes it a lot easier,'' said Parnevik, a five-times winner on the PGA Tour. ''I could have used my career money list but I have been playing now for 21 years and never lost my card.

''It's always something you want to do, even though I had a little parachute thing to fall back on. Plus I can be a little freer in my mindset going into the end of the season.'' Parnevik could have sealed his playing privileges for next year by using a one-off exemption for being in the top 50 in the PGA Tour's career money list.

The eccentric Swede, who sandwiched ties for 17th and 14th around his playoff loss at the Texas Open, is delighted to be fully fit after a frustrating 2007 campaign.

''I've had a weird season,'' said Parnevik, who eats volcanic dust to ''cleanse'' the system. ''I broke my finger the second week out and broke my toe in May.

''But the last three weeks have been good. I had a good chance in Texas and I played very well in Vegas too (in his last start). It's good to be having a clue where the ball's going.'' The 4.5 million dollars Ginn Classic is the penultimate event on the 2007 Tour schedule.
