Parveen Hooda returns with Asian Games 2026 Gold, completes Amazing Turnaround after 22-month Suspension
India's Parveen Hooda completed a remarkable comeback story by defeating Chinese Taipei's Chen Nien-chin 3-2 in the women's 65kg final to win the gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 on Friday.
Parveen entered the gold-medal bout after an impressive run through the tournament, while Chen brought considerably greater Olympic experience into the contest. The Chinese Taipei boxer had won bronze at the Paris 2024 Olympics in the 66kg category and was also a 2025 World Championships bronze medallist.

The victory makes Parveen one of the standout stories of India's boxing campaign in Aichi-Nagoya, particularly given the setbacks she had endured since her previous Asian Games appearance.
Parveen edges Chen in closely fought final
The final lived up to expectations, with both boxers displaying patience and looking to make the most of their openings. Parveen ultimately secured a 3-2 split decision, overcoming a highly experienced opponent who had also reached the Asian Games final after beating DPR Korea's Hwang Hyo Sun by the same score in the semifinals.
She began her medal-winning run by beating Uzbekistan's Navbakhor Khamidova 5-0 in the quarterfinals. Khamidova was a 2025 World Championships silver medallist. Parveen then defeated China's Li Shu 5-0 in the semifinal to book her place in the gold-medal bout.

Who is Parveen Hooda?
Parveen Hooda, born on April 15, 2000, is an Indian boxer from Rurki village in Rohtak, Haryana. She competes in the lightweight categories and has established herself as one of India's leading female boxers. She is also an Assistant Sub-Inspector with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
Parveen's breakthrough came in 2019, when she won gold at the South Asian Games. She then became a senior national champion before making a major international breakthrough in 2022.
That year, she won gold at the Asian Boxing Championships and followed it with a bronze medal at the IBA Women's World Boxing Championships.
She was also part of India's campaign at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, where she initially won bronze. However, the medal was subsequently stripped after she was suspended for a whereabouts violation, with the ban keeping her out of competition for an extended period and also preventing her from pursuing an Olympic qualification opportunity for Paris 2024.
Parveen Hooda was suspended for almost 2 Years
Parveen's return to the ring was far from straightforward. After serving a suspension of around 22 months, she had to rebuild her career and work her way back into India's competitive boxing setup.
The Indian pugilist was suspended after recording three whereabouts failures within a 12-month period, between April 2022 and March 2023. The violations involved failures to provide accurate testing information or be available for anti-doping tests. The ITA imposed a 22-month ban, later effectively backdated to 14 months.
She returned to international competition and won the World Boxing Cup Finals in 2025, but the 2026 Commonwealth Games ended in disappointment after she suffered a quarterfinal defeat. And now, her comeback is complete with a Gold in her tally.
