Passi, Tarrannum top seeds in Asian Jr Circuit

Chandigarh, Nov 2 (UNI) Indian Vishal Passi and wild card Nguyen Hoang Thein of Vietnam have been seeded first and second, respectively, in the boys singles of the Asian Ranking Junior Circuit Under-14 boys and girls which begins tomorrow at the Sector 10 Tennis Stadium here.

Passi with an Asian Tennis Federation ranking of seventh has been drawn to meet qualifier Aayush Mintri in the first round of the main draw. Nguyen Hoang Thein, who is ranked eight in ATF, will begin his campaign with a match against wild card Ogihara Kenta of Japan.

CLTA trainee Digvijay Singh Naruka and local player Nischay Rawal have been seeded third and fourth, respectively. Naruka is pitted against Rishab Aggarwal while Rawal will face Lucky Loser.

Delhi-based Indian Tarrannum Handa, with ATF ranking of 2 and Nguyen Tamhita of Philippine (13th in ATF ranking) are the top favourites in the girls singles. Tarrannum got the top billing while Tamhita is seeded second.

Girls singles:1 Tarrannum Handa, 2 Ngyen Tamhita (Phil),3 Mrinalini Alla, 4 Bhavika Wadhawan,5 Rimpledeep Kaur, 6 Sai Samitha,7 Swetha Sree Hari and 8 Parminder Kaur.

Meanwhile,Kamal Kishore Madrena, a trainee of Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association, qualified for the main draw of 32 in the boys section.In the final qualifying round Kamal Kishore Madrena defeated Dhruv Goel in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

Garvit Batra, Ayush and Ketan Tayal joined Kamal in the main draw.Ketan Tayal, down by one set, rallied to oust Ajay Singh Thakur 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (2). Garvit Batra ousted Pranav Suri 7-6 (6), 6-3.

Simran Wadhwa defeated Harman Kaur 7-6 (3), 6-2 in the girls singles final qualifying round to qualify for main draw. Ruchica Ugalmugle,Kavita Mishra and Kavya Bharat also moved into the main draw.

The main draw will begin tomorrow.
