Paul George's return to Los Angeles was met with mixed emotions. Before the game, he received a video tribute, but boos followed from the crowd as the Philadelphia 76ers faced defeat. The Los Angeles Clippers secured a 110-98 win on Wednesday, adding to the Sixers' challenging start to the NBA season. Despite the loss at Inuit Dome, George stood out by scoring 18 points, hitting seven of nine shots, and grabbing seven rebounds along with three steals.
George spent five years with the Clippers before joining the Sixers as a free agent during the off-season. He signed a four-year $212 million max contract after expressing his desire to remain in LA. However, the Clippers did not offer him the contract he sought. His move to Philadelphia stirred some controversy among Clippers fans due to comments made on his podcast.

After moving to Philadelphia, George upset some Clippers fans by likening his return to Los Angeles as being on the "B team." This was in response to Lakers fans suggesting he should have joined them instead. Although he appreciated the Clippers' video tribute, he was taken aback by the crowd's reaction, especially given his role in leading them to their only Western Conference finals in 2021.
"It is stupid," George remarked about the boos. "I mean, I was a free agent, you know what I mean? It wasn't something that I demanded a trade or went against the team here. I was a free agent. The team presented something that was team-friendly, and I did what was best for me in that situation."
George acknowledged both cheers and boos from fans, expressing gratitude towards those who supported him during his tenure with the Clippers. He remains puzzled by negative reactions both in LA and when visiting Indianapolis but accepts it as part of sports culture.
Looking ahead, George anticipates returning next year and expects more boos from fans. Despite mixed feelings from supporters, he remains focused on performing well for his new team while acknowledging past contributions to his former club.
