Paul George Faces Potential Weeks Out After Hyperextended Knee Injury For Sixers

Paul George's hyperextended left knee may keep him out for several weeks, compounding the Philadelphia 76ers' early-season woes. Coach Nick Nurse remains hopeful about avoiding structural damage.

The Philadelphia 76ers are facing a challenging period as Paul George might be sidelined for several weeks due to a hyperextended left knee. This injury occurred during their recent loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, marking their 12th defeat in 14 games and fifth consecutive loss at FedExForum with a score of 117-111.

George's injury is particularly concerning as he had previously missed five preseason games due to the same issue. Head coach Nick Nurse indicated that George could face a similar recovery period this time. "I think they said it was similar to last time, which was a bone bruise, I think," Nurse mentioned. "He was actually fairly close to coming back in the game, but then it kind of stiffened up as he got out a little bit more, so I decided not to, and now we got to take a look at it, make sure."

Paul George Injured Again: Sixers Update

Despite fielding their star trio—George, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey—together for the first time this season after Maxey's return from a hamstring injury, George had to leave early in the second half. His performance was limited to two points, four rebounds, and two assists in just 17 minutes on the court.

Nurse expressed some optimism regarding the absence of structural damage in George's knee. When asked about ruling out such damage, he replied positively: "I think so." However, he acknowledged that fitness issues continue to plague the team. "Listen, it's certainly not easy," Nurse admitted. "Tyrese was just getting back and didn't really have a feel tonight, and Paul going out... It's certainly not easy but we didn't put enough together again for 48."

The Sixers are set for a busy schedule with seven games over the next two weeks. They will face the Brooklyn Nets at home on Friday and conclude this stretch against the Orlando Magic on December 6. The team will need to address their ongoing fitness challenges if they hope to improve their current standing.

As Philadelphia navigates these difficulties, maintaining player health will be crucial for any chance of reversing their fortunes in upcoming matches.
