Paul Targat confirms participation in World 10K run on May 18

Bangalore, Apr 27 (UNI) Five-time World Cross Country Champion and former World record holder at the full marathon, Kenyan running legend Paul Targat has confirmed his participation in the USD 150,000 Sunfeast World 10K Bangalore to be held on May 18.

Other legendary runners who have confirmed their participation in the Procom International sponsored World 10 K event include Eritrea's Zersenay Tadesse, the World Road Race champion 2006, World Cross Country champion 2007 and bronze medalist in the 10000m at the 2004 Athens Olympics. Uganda's Moses Kipsiro, the 2006 African Games 10,000m champion, Qatar's Mubarak Shami, Asian Games marathon champion and Asian 10,000m champion, Turkey's Selim Bayrak, the 2008 European Cup 10,000m champion and Ethiopia's Gemechu Kebede, 2007 Ethiopian 10,000m champion and 2008 Paris Marathon winner.

Among the leading lights in the women are Turkey's Elvan Abeylegesse, the 2008 European 10,000m champion and former 5000m World record holder, Kenya's Salina Kosgei, former Commonwealth Games 10,000m champion, 2008 Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon winner, Ethiopian Dire Tune, 2008 Boston Marathon winner and Deriba Alem also of Ethiopia, winner of the 2007 Vodafone Delhi Half Marathon.

Association of Marathons and Distance Running (AIMS) Board which met here for the first time in India from April 25 to 27 took stock of the preparations for the successful conduct of the event. The Meeting was of significance as it underlines the recognition accorded to a country that plays host to three major long distance running events, Asia's Largest Full Marathon, the World's Most Prestigious Half Marathon and the World's Richest 10 km Run, sources told UNI.

AIMS President Hiroaki Chosa, Secretary Hugh Jones and also the Race Director of the Sunfeast World 10K Bangalore were among other who attended the meeting.
