The WAVES Esports Championship 2025 (WESC25) in eFootball recently concluded its first phase, drawing participation from over 450 top players across India.
Pavan Kampelli, also known as "Mr Tomboy," emerged victorious and will represent India at the Asian Esports Games in Bangkok on November 30.

Reflecting on his success, Pavan expressed his gratitude for the support he received. He stated, "Competing at such a high level in India has been an incredible experience, and this victory feels truly special.
Meeting Senthil Rajan Sir was an honour, and I am deeply grateful for the encouragement that the Waves Esports Championship is bringing for the Esports Players in India. Our next stop is the Asian Esports Games in Bangkok and I'm fully focused and determined to bring home another win."
In a significant moment for Indian esports, Mr Senthil Rajan, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, presented Pavan with the Team India jersey. This gesture symbolised India's growing prominence in global esports competitions.
Mr Rajan remarked, "Waves Esports Championship is a testament to India’s growing prominence in the global esports arena. It is part of the Waves Challenges launched in the build-up to the Waves Summit to be held in February in New Delhi.
Under Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a Digital India, esports has emerged as a vital part of our cultural and technological evolution. It is inspiring to see a young talent like Pavan step onto international platforms to represent our nation with pride at the Asian Esports Games.
"The tournament featured two groups from which eight players advanced to the main stage. Akash, known as "AKASH_BIT," secured second place and will join Pavan at the WESC25 Grand Finale scheduled for February 2024.
The Esports Federation of India (ESFI), as the governing body for esports in India, has played a crucial role in promoting competitive gaming. ESFI has been instrumental in events such as the Asian Games 2018 and 2022, the Commonwealth Esports Championship 2022, and the BRICS Esports Championship 2024 where India won a historic silver medal.
