Pawar gets a standing ovation at Eden
Kolkata, Feb 8 (UNI) Amid the gloom and rain of the match interrupted, the fans had something to cheer for when BCCI President Sharad Pawar walked into the middle to assess the situation.
Mr Pawar flew into the city this afternoon to pay a visit at Eden Gardens for the first time since taking over as the BCCI president.
But the rain played spoilsport drubbing the ODI into uncertainty after just 18.2 overs. As the curator worked overtime to restore the ground, and the groundsmen brought over a double wrap of blue tarp, the floodlights half-lit, Mr Pawar walked into the ground.
In a blue suit, accompanied by the new CAB President Prasun Mukherjee and a host of other CAB officials, he walked into the ground and took stock of the conditions.
He had a brief chat with curator Prabir Mukherjee before stopping to wave at the fans who remained glued to their seats braving the rain and the chill.
The sudden gesture from the BCCI president brought the ground on its feet as they gave a standing ovation to the man and a couple of Mexican wave synonymous with the Gardens.
