Pelicans Under Pressure Following Ninth Straight Loss Against Hawks

After a ninth consecutive defeat to the Atlanta Hawks, Pelicans' coach Willie Green addresses player frustrations and the impact of injuries on team performance.

The New Orleans Pelicans are grappling with mounting pressure after their ninth consecutive loss, this time against the Atlanta Hawks. Trae Young was instrumental in the Hawks' 124-112 victory, contributing 12 points and 15 assists, marking his 15th double-double of the season. De'Andre Hunter led the Hawks with 22 points off the bench, while Jalen Johnson added 19 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.

Despite CJ McCollum's impressive performance of 29 points for the Pelicans, they fell short once again. Yves Missi also contributed significantly with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Dejounte Murray faced his former team for the first time since being traded to the Pelicans but struggled, managing only seven points. The Pelicans have now lost nine straight games overall and 11 out of 12 on the road this season.

Pelicans Struggle with Pressure After Loss

Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson were absent due to lower-body injuries during Monday's game. Despite these setbacks, the Pelicans started strong, leading 28-26 after the first quarter. This point total equaled their entire first-half score from Sunday's defeat against the New York Knicks. However, they couldn't maintain their lead throughout the game.

Head coach Willie Green acknowledged his team's frustration with their current form. "They're competitors, and they do feel that pressure," Green stated. "They walk into every arena believing they have a chance to win." He emphasized wanting players who are disciplined and passionate about competing.

Green expressed disappointment over his team's inability to sustain their performance throughout all four quarters. "I give our guys credit," he said. "They went out with the right intentions, played hard, competed their tails off." Yet again, they fell short of securing a win by failing to finish strong.

The Pelicans will return home to face the Phoenix Suns on Thursday night. As they continue to navigate through injuries and tough losses, finding consistency remains a key challenge for them moving forward.
