Pep Guardiola Expresses Optimism For Rodri's Recovery Ahead Of Club World Cup Participation

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is hopeful that Rodri will be fit to participate in the Club World Cup as he recovers from an ACL injury. The Ballon d'Or winner sustained the injury during a 2-2 draw with Arsenal in September but has recently resumed light training. Rodri's absence has impacted City's season, leaving them fifth in the Premier League, trailing leaders Liverpool by 22 points.

Ahead of the FA Cup quarter-final against Bournemouth, Guardiola expressed uncertainty about Rodri's participation in the Club World Cup. "I don't know, I hope so but I don't know. It would be nice if he could play tomorrow," he stated. However, he emphasised caution to avoid setbacks, noting that doctors predicted a seven to eight-month recovery period. Rodri has been progressing well on the pitch, but competition is a different challenge.

The Club World Cup winner will receive a substantial £97 million bonus from June 14 to July 13. Despite this incentive, Guardiola feels City doesn't deserve it due to their disappointing season. "We don't deserve it this season. We don't deserve a bonus this season," he remarked. He added that any winnings would belong to the club rather than individuals like players or staff.

With split summer transfer windows confirmed, Kevin De Bruyne might leave before the tournament as his contract ends in June. Guardiola mentioned that De Bruyne's contract discussions are between him and the club. Meanwhile, Guardiola aims for Champions League qualification and an FA Cup victory but acknowledges Bournemouth's challenge at Vitality Stadium.

City experienced a significant dip in form with a loss at Bournemouth in November. Guardiola recognises Bournemouth's unique playing style and effectiveness with their players and tactics. "I wouldn't say they are chaotic," he said, acknowledging their specific approach and success against City.

Bournemouth's victory over City was their first win against them after 21 meetings across all competitions. This highlights Bournemouth's potential threat as they prepare for another encounter with Manchester City at Vitality Stadium.
