Petition seeking life ban on tainted Pak trio filed in HC

Lahore, Feb 26 (PTI) There seems no end to the woes ofbanned Pakistani cricketers Salman Butt, Muhammad Asif andMuhammad Aamir as a petition seeking a life ban on them hasbeen filed in the Lahore High Court.

A lawyer, Rana Inamuddin Ghani, has filed the petitionwhich also seeks confiscation of their assets.

Ghani, on behalf of his client, has pleaded to the courtthat it should take notice of the bans imposed on the threeplayers earlier this month for involvement in spot-fixing andcorruption.

"These three players have tarnished the image of Pakistanand its cricket. Their guilt has been proven by theInternational Cricket Council''s anti-corruption unit and wewant the country''s court to also take action against them,"Ghani told PTI.

"We want the court to order not only that their bankaccounts be frozen but their assets seized," he said.

"We want the court to impose a life ban on all three ofthem as their guilt has now been proven and they are guilty ofcorruption. They must be punished under the country''s laws aswell to control corruption in the sport."

Butt, Aamir and Asif have until Sunday to file theirappeals against the bans imposed on them by the ICCanti-corruption tribunal.

Aamir''s lawyer, Shahid Karim, is expected to file theappeal later today with the international court of arbitrationfor sports in Geneva.
