Piastri To Use Harsh Silverstone Penalty As Motivation For Upcoming Races

McLaren's Andrea Stella states that Oscar Piastri will channel his frustration from a harsh penalty at Silverstone into increased motivation for future races. The team aims to learn from the incident as they move forward in the Formula 1 season.

McLaren's Andrea Stella anticipates Oscar Piastri will find renewed motivation for the remainder of the Formula 1 season following his penalty at the British Grand Prix. During the race, Piastri was penalised ten seconds for erratic braking while leading Max Verstappen under a safety car. This incident forced Verstappen to manoeuvre around the McLaren to avoid a collision.

Piastri finished 6.812 seconds behind his teammate Lando Norris at Silverstone, narrowing their championship points gap to just eight. Stella described the penalty as harsh but believes Piastri will channel this experience into determination for future races. "I have to say that the penalty was very harsh," said Stella. "There are a few things to review, but in itself, now the penalty has been decided and has been served, we move on."

Piastri Motivated by Silverstone Penalty

Norris celebrated his first home race victory, marking consecutive wins in Formula 1 for the first time in his career. He has secured four wins this season, trailing Piastri by one victory. Norris is striving for excellence in his pursuit of the drivers' championship title.

"It's two wins in a row, but they've not come easy by any means," Norris stated. He acknowledged the intense competition and effort required each weekend as he competes against skilled drivers and strives for perfection in every session.

Stella remains optimistic about Piastri's response to this setback. "We will see if there's anything to learn on our side and I'm sure Oscar will use this motivation for being even more determined for the races to come and try and win as many races as possible."

Norris highlighted how challenging these victories have been due to fierce competition and tight margins. "We've had good fights, but they're pretty strenuous, exhausting weekends because you're fighting for hundredths and thousandths of a second," he explained.

The recent events at Silverstone have set an exciting stage for upcoming races, with both McLaren drivers eager to prove themselves further in their championship quests.
