Oscar Piastri expressed satisfaction with McLaren's performance this season after his victory at the Spanish Grand Prix. The race at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya ended dramatically as Max Verstappen fell from fifth to tenth due to a 10-second penalty for a late collision with George Russell. Meanwhile, McLaren celebrated their third one-two finish of the season, with Piastri leading from pole position.
Piastri's triumph marked his fifth win of the season, placing him 10 points ahead of teammate Lando Norris in the drivers' championship standings. Reflecting on the race, Piastri told Sky Sports: "It's hard to complain, it has been a great year and this weekend has been exactly the kind of weekend I was looking for. We executed everything we needed to when it counted and that's all we could ask for."

The victory also represented a milestone for Australian drivers in Formula One, being the 50th win by an Australian. Australia became the seventh nation to achieve this feat in the sport. Piastri has consistently scored points in his last 35 races, trailing only Lewis Hamilton and Verstappen for longer streaks.
Piastri was taken aback by Verstappen's strategy to pit three times and finish on hard tyres, despite having pulled 49 points clear of the reigning champion. He commented on Verstappen's approach: "It was a bit of a surprise to see Max Verstappen try a three-stop and it nearly worked for him, but it was a great weekend overall."
Norris also made headlines by surpassing Jenson Button with his 137th Grand Prix appearance for McLaren, second only to David Coulthard's 150 races for the team. In his post-race interview, Norris praised Piastri's performance: "Oscar drove a very good race today. I didn't quite have the pace to match him. We gave it our best shot."
Both McLaren drivers experienced some challenges during the safety car restart but managed to secure top positions. Norris remarked on their teamwork: "It's a long race, anything could have happened at the end of the race. We both got pretty sideways with the safety car restart."
Piastri highlighted their strong performance over the weekend despite initial setbacks: "The overall pace was really good and we could turn it on when we needed to." He expressed pride in their efforts following difficulties in Monaco.
As McLaren continues its impressive run this season, Piastri remains optimistic about future races while enjoying his current success.
