Oscar Piastri celebrated a significant victory at the Belgian Grand Prix, overcoming the disappointment of the previous day's sprint race. Despite not converting his pole position into a win during the sprint, he led McLaren to a one-two finish on Sunday. The race faced delays due to heavy rain, with the first four laps completed behind a virtual safety car. Once racing resumed, Piastri overtook teammate Lando Norris and maintained control, finishing four seconds ahead of his closest competitor.
The challenging weather conditions improved as the race progressed, prompting drivers to make their initial pit stops around lap 10. Piastri switched to medium tyres on lap 13, while Norris opted for hard tyres a lap later but experienced a slower stop. McLaren planned for both cars to finish on these tyres, though Piastri voiced concerns over radio communication about this strategy. Despite these worries, he remained calm and executed his plan effectively.

Piastri's triumph marked McLaren's sixth one-two finish in 2025 and their second such achievement in a single season since 1998. This victory also allowed Piastri to match Daniel Ricciardo as the fourth Australian driver with eight Formula One wins. Additionally, he became the first Australian to secure six victories in one year within this competition.
Reflecting on his performance, Piastri acknowledged that the first lap was crucial for securing victory. "It was very lively," he noted, adding that he managed well throughout most of the race despite some struggles towards the end. He expressed satisfaction with starting second at Spa after initially feeling disappointed with himself following Saturday's events.
Piastri explained his strategic choice of medium tyres by saying they were safer given potential safety car scenarios and had performed well during the sprint race. He remarked that when competing closely with a teammate like Norris, seeking any possible advantage is natural.
The Formula One calendar moves next to Hungary, where Piastri secured his first win in 2024. In that race, Norris finished second, marking McLaren's first one-two finish since Italy in 2021. Piastri is eager to return to Hungary and hopes to maintain their strong momentum from Belgium.
"It's going to be exciting to go back," Piastri stated enthusiastically about returning to Hungary. He expressed confidence in continuing their impressive pace from Belgium and looked forward to another enjoyable track experience.
As McLaren prepares for Hungary, they aim to build on their recent successes and further solidify their position in this year's championship standings.
