World Pickleball League prodigy Vanshik Kapadia is preparing for a fresh title push with Pune United in WPBL Season 2, aiming to convert last season’s near miss into a championship as the 20-year-old retained star prepares to lead the franchise once again in Mumbai.
Pune United start their World Pickleball League Season 2 campaign against Bengaluru Jawans on January 27 in Mumbai, with the franchise backing Kapadia as a key figure after a standout debut season where the youngster guided the side to the final and displayed strong temperament under pressure.

Kapadia’s influence during World Pickleball League Season 1 proved crucial for Pune United, as the team reached the final before narrowly missing the title, and coaches highlighted Kapadia’s composed shot selection, tactical understanding and ability to excel in tight situations across multiple matches during the demanding league schedule.
The retained Pune United player believes the World Pickleball League sets a unique standard of competition and intensity, echoing that challenge in a simple message to peers and rivals: "If you can survive and succeed in the WPBL, you are genuinely battle-ready," said the retained Pune United star.
Introduced to pickleball in 2018 and turning professional in 2020, Kapadia has built a strong base on the Asian circuit, which Kapadia views as a tough testing ground that has shaped both physical resilience and mental strength while also providing regular exposure to high-level opponents and varied match situations.
Reflecting on that progression, Kapadia contrasted the Asian events with the World Pickleball League, stating: "The Asian circuit is the toughest place to be right now. It’s physically demanding, mentally draining and there’s no margin for error. But the WPBL is a different ball game altogether. With players from across the world, if you can survive and succeed here, you are genuinely battle-ready," Kapadia said ahead of the new season.
Kapadia has already stacked a notable list of achievements before World Pickleball League Season 2, including podium finishes at continental and university level, and a top-two ranking across multiple formats in Asia, highlighting flexibility across singles, doubles and mixed events while still in the early twenties.
| Event | Achievement |
|---|---|
| PPA Tour Asia (inaugural edition) | Triple medalist; first Indian to do so |
| Asian University Games | Triple crown winner |
| Asian rankings | Former Asia No. 2 in men’s singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles |
Kapadia’s growing presence on the international stage was also evident at the PPA Malaysia Cup, where Kapadia and partner lost a tight three-set quarterfinal to world No. 1 Ben Johns and Christian Alshon, a contest that underlined Kapadia’s ability to compete against leading global names.
When assessing how World Pickleball League Season 1 shaped development, Kapadia stressed the importance of the league format and intensity, saying: "The league gave Indian players a proper stage. High intensity, packed schedules and pressure situations in important encounters forced me to grow quickly. Playing in a team environment like that changes you," he said.
Nicknamed "The Magician" on the Asian circuit, Kapadia is known for anticipation and the confidence to attempt unusual angles or changes of pace, describing this mindset by saying: "I trust my awareness. I see patterns early and once I commit, I don’t hesitate. Pickleball rewards bravery," he explained.
Kapadia also pointed to the broader impact of the World Pickleball League on a personal level, noting: "Pickleball has given me everything, from direction and discipline to even opportunity at the highest level. It has become a way of life for me and the exposure and excitement created by the WPBL has played a huge role in that," he said.
As World Pickleball League Season 2 approaches, Vanshik Kapadia enters as one of the clearest products of the competition, combining success on the Asian circuit with a breakthrough first WPBL campaign, and Pune United will again rely on the 20-year-old as a retained cornerstone in pursuit of long-awaited championship success.
