Pistons Central Division Title Secured As Bickerstaff Lauds Progress After Raptors Win

Detroit Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff says the franchise have achieved "something special" after clinching a first Central Division title in 18 years, with a 127-116 victory over the Toronto Raptors moving the team to 55-21 and top of the Eastern Conference standings.

The win also extended Detroit’s record without sidelined star Cade Cunningham to 6-2, underlining the group’s depth during the guard’s absence with a lung injury. It is the Pistons’ first Central Division crown since the 2007-08 campaign, which completed a run of four straight division titles.

Against Toronto, Jalen Duren powered Detroit with 31 points and nine rebounds, making 12 of 13 field goals. Daniss Jenkins contributed 21 points, while Duncan Robinson added 19, as the Pistons closed out a crucial home win that confirmed their long-awaited Central Division success.

Bickerstaff reflected on the scale of the achievement for a developing roster. "You take pride in understanding how hard it is to do these things in this league, Bickerstaff said. You take pride in the fact that you have a group of young men who have grown and achieved certain milestones."

Duren’s performance continues a strong spell since Cunningham’s injury, with the centre averaging 23.4 points and 10.5 rebounds across seven games. Those numbers, combined with elite efficiency against the Raptors, underline Duren’s expanded offensive role and importance to Detroit’s interior attack.

Duncan Robinson 19 -

Bickerstaff praised Duren’s versatility in the modern NBA frontcourt. "He's so talented, Bickerstaff added of Duren. He's a different kind of big that you see in the NBA. You have space-up bigs and post-up bigs, but when you have somebody who can do both, he's a problem for people."

Detroit Pistons Central Division title fuels focus on the playoffs

While the organisation marked the division trophy, Bickerstaff stressed that the squad’s main targets lie ahead. "It's a part of the process, and we expect more. We knew we were trying to do something special this year. It's great to accomplish something like this, but we have our eyes on the playoffs and doing some damage there. We'll celebrate this and get back to work [on Wednesday]."

The Central Division title confirms Detroit’s progress under Bickerstaff, with a strong record, improved depth and Duren’s emergence all central themes. With home-court advantage in play and momentum built without Cunningham, the Pistons now turn attention fully towards shaping a deep Eastern Conference playoff run.
