Mason Plumlee Criticises Houston Rockets For Excessive Physicality Following Double Ejection

Mason Plumlee of the Phoenix Suns expressed concerns over the Houston Rockets' aggressive tactics after he and Steven Adams were ejected for fighting. The incident raised questions about officiating standards in the NBA.

The Phoenix Suns' Mason Plumlee criticised the Houston Rockets' Steven Adams after both were ejected during Wednesday's game. The incident occurred in the second quarter when they clashed while vying for a rebound. Despite the Rockets winning 111-104, the altercation overshadowed the match. Players, coaches, and security quickly surrounded them as they grappled on the floor.

Plumlee expressed his frustration to the Arizona Republic, saying, "He goes for every rebound, and he does it whether it's dirty or not." He felt that the Rockets were being overly physical, prompting him to retaliate on the court. The confrontation escalated when Adams hooked his arms under Plumlee's and pulled him back, leading to a push from Plumlee.

Plumlee Calls Out Rockets' Physical Play

After reviewing the situation briefly, crew chief Tony Brothers announced double technical fouls and ejected both players. "Their aggressive actions were considered a fight, and by rule, fighting technical fouls carry a penalty of automatic ejection," he explained to reporters. This decision was met with mixed reactions from those present at the game.

As Adams exited the court, he received applause from Rockets fans. However, Rockets coach Ime Udoka disagreed with the ejection decision. "There wasn't much," Udoka commented. "Steven could do a lot more if he was really trying to wrestle." He believed their actions resembled more of a bear hug than an actual fight.

The game continued without further incidents after both players left. The focus shifted back to basketball as teams adjusted their strategies following the ejections. Despite differing opinions on the severity of their actions, both teams aimed to move past this incident quickly.
