Plunkett ready to donate kidney for ailing dad
London, Mar 5 (UNI) England fast bowler Liam Plunkett did not mind putting his fledging career in jeopardy when he offered to donate his kidneys to his ailing father just days before he left for the World Cup.
But, 49-year old Alan Plunkett, who was suffering from a life-threatening kidney disease, expectedly turned it down as he feared it could damage his son's England career.
''Obviously, with your dad on his death bed, you would try to help in any way you can, wouldn't you?'' said Liam.
''I was fully prepared to offer my kidney but dad wouldn't take it.'' Plunkett (Sr) had a liver transplant about 10 years ago which affected his kidneys and now he is waiting for dialysis.
The condition is hereditary and Liam is the only one of Alan and Marie Plunkett's four children without the disease, 'The Sun' reported.
''Liam is the only person in my family who could give me a kidney. He offered but I said, 'thanks but no thanks', Alan said.
''It was an amazing thing to do but I'd be worried it would affect his career. Instead, I'm awaiting dialysis and for a new kidney to become available, which could be two years.'' UNI
