PM congratulates Anand on becoming World Champion

New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today congratulated Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand on becoming the World Champion for the second time in his career.

Anand, who last won the world championship in 2000 at New Delhi, drew his 14th and final round game against Hungarian Grandmaster Peter Leko in the World Chess Championship 2007 at Mexico City on Saturday and finished with a overall score of nine points to be crowned the World Champion solely.

The second place went to defending champion Vladimir Kramnik of Russia.

By winning the crown, Anand became richer by 360,000 dollars.
