Pomeyie brace helps Mahindra rout JCT 3-1

By Staff

Mumbai, Jan 10 (UNI) A brace by Andrew Mensah Pomeyie propelled local giants Mahindra United to a comprehensive 3-1 victory over JCT in the tenth round match of the ONGC I League played at the Copeerage ground here today.

Mahindra with this win have moved to 14 points from 10 matches, while JCT remained at the same (19) points from an equal number of matches.

It was JCT who, however, shot into the lead in as early as the seventh minute, when Eduardo Escober found the net to give the JCT side the early advantage.

Mahindra who has been lacking in finishing this season, however, saw their import Andrew Pomeyie make no mistake with just the goalkeeper to beat in the tenth minute scoring the much-needed equaliser for the jeepmen.

Mahindra then launched a series of attack, to be repulsed by the JCT defence who held out to go for the break at 1-1.

After the break, Mahindra continued to dominate the match and took the lead before the 65th minute, when a brace by Andrew Pomeyie saw the JCT defence napping to put the home side in front.

JCT then tried to launch a counter attack, but the Mahindra defence held firm and with just three minutes to go, Douhou Pierre got on the scoreboard for the jeepmen to shut out JCT and register their win 3-1 and with it three vital points.

Andrew Pomeyie was adjudged Man of the Match.
