R Praggnanandhaa becomes World Champion days after Chess World Cup defeat

The inaugural FIDE World Rapid Team Championship witnessed WR Chess securing a triumphant win with an exceptional performance of two draws and ten victories out of twelve games, clinching the championship title before the final round.

The team featured India's newest chess sensation Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, who finished as runners-up in the Chess World Cup.

Team Freedom grabbed the runner-up position, followed by MGD1 from India in third place. In terms of matchpoints, WR Chess led with 22 points, trailed closely by Freedom with 20 points and MGD1 at 18.

The first-place award included a much-desired trophy, medals, and a significant cash prize of 100,000 Euros. For their second-place achievement, Team Freedom bagged 60,000 Euros while MGD1 took home 40,000 Euros for coming in third.

Additionally recognized was Team Armenia who received 25,000 Euros for finishing fourth and Germany and Friends who unexpectedly secured fifth place along with a cash reward of 12,500 Euros.

Aside from Praggnanandhaa, other notable members of the victorious WR Chess team were Wesley So, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Vincent Keymer, Hou Yifan, and Alexandra Kosteniuk - all renowned figures in chess.
