Prasun files nomination, forges winning alliances
Kolkata, Jan 17 (UNI) City Police Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee today filed his nomination for the post of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president and formally forged alliance with the breakaway group of Jagmohan Dalmiya, putting at rest speculation that he might withdraw after the name of West Bengal Sports Minister Subhas Chakraborty came up as a contestant.
His nomination papers were filed by Police Athletic Club Secretary and Assistant commissioner Pranab Kr Ghosh.
Mr Mukherjee, who was earlier backed by chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya against Jagmohan Dalmiya, had lost the last polls eight months back by mere five votes.
Even as his nomination papers were being filed here at CAB, the breakaway group of the Jagmohan Dalmiya faction met Mr Mukherjee at another venue and sorted out the equations.
'' I will not comment anything on Mr Subhas Chakraborty. I am standing and can only talk about myself, '' Mr Prasun Mukherjee told UNI emerging out of the meeting.
He further clarified that those who were dragging the name of the Chief Minister in this CAB elections were actually insulting the affiliated units. '' The Chief Minister is the head of the state. He is too big and important to be involved in something so small as the CAB polls, '' he said.
'' I am here because the clubs have backed me and want me in CAB.
I have had a successful meeting with the breakaway group that also wants CAB to progress, '' he said.
The top cop further said, '' We have a lot of work at hand. We have to get our dues from BCCI and make the districts powerful. '' The breakaway faction was led by the likes of Gautam Dasgupta, Chitrak Mitra, Hiranmoy Chatterjee and Bablu Koley who have with them at least 30 votes among themselves.
