Maharashtra Ironmen beat Golden Eagles UP in the final to be crowned the inaugural champions of the Premier Handball League (PHL) 2023 at the Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday (June 25).

Jalal Kiani and Igor Chiseliov combined to score 22 goals (11 goals each) as table-toppers Maharashtra Ironmen defeated the Golden Eagles Uttar Pradesh side by a scoreline of 38-24 in the first-ever PHL summit clash.

With 10 goals, Sukhveer Singh Brar was the top scorer for Golden Eagles UP and also the overall top-scorer in PHL season 1 with 102 goals, the first player to reach a century of goals in Premier Handball League.

Maharashtra Ironmen had defeated defeated the hosts Rajasthan Patriots by 38-28 in the first semifinal to reach the final, while Golden Eagles UP, who edged a semifinal spot at the expense of Delhi Panzers, defeated second-placed Telugu Talons by a penalties (4-3) after the second semifinal had ended 40-40.
