Premier League title not down to two-horse race, says Wenger

By Super Admin

London, Dec 12(ANI): Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has ridiculed suggestions that the Premier League title is down to a two-horse race between leaders Chelsea and second-placed Manchester United.

Wenger believes that victory at Liverpool in Sunday's game will keep his team firmly on course for their first league championship since 2004.

"After Chelsea won at the Emirates two weeks ago everyone said 'Make them champions'. But, I said then that it was not finished, that Chelsea would drop points. And you all looked at me like, 'This guy has completely lost the plot'. But, one week later Chelsea lost at Manchester City and they will lose more games this season, don't worry about that," The Sun quoted Wenger, as saying.

"So, I don't know why anyone should say it is a two-horse race. Chelsea and Manchester United have already lost three league games this season and we have lost four," he added.

Wenger said that according to his calculations 83 points will be enough to win the Premier League this season, and reckons that he could even do it with 78.

"If we win our game in hand we will be three points behind United with more than 20 games still to go this season. This year it will be between 78 and 83 points to win the title. The first team to 83 or 84 will be champions," Wenger said.

"That is lower than it has been for quite a few years, but it is harder than ever these days and no one goes through an entire season unbeaten any more," he added.

If successful, his calculations would be the lowest title-winning total since his title win back in 1998 with 78 points. (ANI)
