Preparations on in full swing for Commonwealth Youth Games

Pune, Apr 6 (UNI) No stone will be left unturned to make the first ever Commonwealth Youth Games, to be held at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports City, Balewadi here in October, a great success.

Speaking to mediapersons here today, Indian Weight Lifting Federation (IWF) Vice President and member of the 2008 CY Games Technical Conduct Committee (GTCC), Sqn Ldr B R Gulati said the infrastructure at Balewadi consists of a weightlifting stage of 4MX4M platform and a ''field of play'', designed as per the highest international specifications with latest facilities.

Participation by 18 countries has already been confirmed in the five-day weightlifting events, which includes the first five weight categories both in men and women sections. Each country can field a maximum of five competitors in both the sections, Mr Gulati said.

Special security arrangements have been made for the upcoming events, he added.

The meeting was chaired by GTCC Vice-Chairman Prof Balasaheb Landge and attended by members of the state and district weightlifting associations and a hosts of others.

The next meeting, to be held on April 13, will have thorough discussion on the preparation of the Boxing discipline of the 2008 CYG.
