Defending champions Ahmedabad Defenders will face hosts Chennai Blitz in the opening match of the Prime Volleyball League (PVL) season 3 on Thursday (February 15) at the SDAT Multipurpose Indoor Stadium in Chennai.

Bengaluru Torpedoes, Calicut Heroes, Delhi Toofans, Hyderabad Black Hawks, Kochi Blue Spikers, Kolkata Thunderbolts, and Mumbai Meteors are the other seven teams to participate in the third edition of PVL.

Prime Volleyball League 2024 Teams & Format

The addition of Delhi Toofans extends the league to a nine-team event with a total of 36 matches to fold up in the round-robin format, meaning each team will play no less than eight matches. The top five teams will advance to the Super 5s round, wherein all teams will face the other four teams once again.

The leader of Super5s will play against the winner of the eliminator match (2nd vs 3rd teams in Super5s). The league stage of Prime Volleyball Season 3 is scheduled between February 15 and March 10, while the Super 5s starts on March 11 and concludes on March 18. The eliminator is scheduled on March 19 followed by the final on March 21.

PVL 2024: Basic Rules

Each tie consists of five sets and the one to win three sets will be declared as the winner. Each set is a race to 15 points first. Even if a team wins the first three sets, the match is bound to complete all five sets unless it’s a knockout match.

Whichever team registers a dominating 5-0 win will take home three points, while a 3-0 or 4-1 win will only earn two points. In case two teams level on the same number of points at the end of the league stage, the team with the most set wins will make it to the next stage.

PVL 2024 Format

A total of nine teams will compete in the Prime Volleyball League season 3 with each team playing all eight opponents at least one. The top five teams will qualify for the Super5s stage where they start completely fresh.

Once again a team will play the remaining four teams once. The leader of the Super5s will directly qualify for the PVL 2024 final, while the teams placed second and third will compete in the eliminator to determine the second finalists of the competition. The winner of the final inevitably lifts the cup.
