Prior out of Twenty20 World Cup with broken thumb

By Staff

DURBAN, South Africa, Sep 18 (Reuters) England wicketkeeper Matt Prior has been ruled out of the Twenty20 World Cup with a broken thumb.

Prior sustained the injury during a training session in Durban on Monday and was ruled out of contention before yesterday's Super Eights match against New Zealand.

Vikram Solanki will keep wicket for England in a contest they must win to retain any hope of reaching the semi-finals.

''It's a bit of bad luck for Matt but I'm sure Vikram will do a great job,'' England captain Paul Collingwood told reporters.

England, who are scheduled to play the first match of their Sri Lanka tour on Oct. 1, may call for a replacement for Prior.
