Pritam Kendre Credits Technique As He Wins ISSF Junior World Championship Gold

Sixteen-year-old Indian shooter Pritam Kendre announced himself on the world stage by winning the gold medal in the men's 10m air rifle event at the ISSF Junior World Championship 2026 in Suhl, Germany, on Sunday.

Competing in only his second international tournament, Pritam produced a composed and clinical performance in the eight-man final, shooting 251.3 to finish ahead of neutral athlete Timofei Aleinikov, who claimed silver, and Norway's Jens Oestli, who took bronze.

Reflecting on his maiden world title, the young Indian credited his disciplined approach and technical focus.

"I am extremely happy with this victory. My only focus throughout the competition was on my technique and giving my best in every shot," said Pritam.

The Pune-based shooter also acknowledged the role played by the Gagan Narang Gun For Glory Shooting Academy in his rapid rise.

"The coaches at GNGFG have given me tremendous personal attention. Our training has always been centred on improving my technique, and I believe that has been the biggest reason behind this success," he added.

Having recently completed his Class 10 board examinations, Pritam said the victory has only strengthened his resolve to achieve greater success for India.

"Winning a world championship gold has given me immense confidence. I want to continue improving in the 10m air rifle event and win many more medals for India in the years ahead."

The fifth edition of the ISSF Junior World Championship has attracted more than 800 shooters from 70 national federations, with India fielding an 84-member contingent.

At the previous edition in Lima, Peru, in 2024, India topped the medals table with 24 medals, including 13 gold, three silver and eight bronze.

The ISSF Junior World Championship 2026 concludes on 26 June.
