Promising swimmer dies while competing in her favourite sport
Kolkata, Sep 30 (UNI) Champion swimmer Shampa Das died of a heart attack while competing in a long distance swimming competition in the Hooghly river (Ganges).
She collapsed while about to finish a kilometre of the 10-km swimming route at Chandernagore yesterday.
The 23-year-old swimmer was leading the race when she collapsed and was later declared brought dead at a local hospital.
Das, a champion swimmer, who won many competitions and represented Bengal in the national meets, was on her way to another win, but she went out of breath and was lifted by a rescue boat accompanying the swimmers.
