Junior Tennis: Indian boys fail to make it to finals

Karachi, Aug 31: Indian twins, Chandril Sood and Lakshit Sood crashed out as they lost their semi-final matches in contrasting style in the ITF juniors ranking tennis tournament (second leg) here.

However, in the girl's section Sonya Dayal kept India's hopes alive as she ousted compatriot Inayat Khosla to set up a title clash with top seed Lankan Jithmie Jayawickrema.

Chandril went down to Lahore-based Tanveer Ashiq after winning the first set. The Indian failed to hold on to the lead and lost next two and the match 6-4, 1-6, 6-7.

In second semi-final, fifth seed Lakshit Sood failed to put up any kind of resistance against Nuttorn Tanchainant of Thailand and caved in meekly 3-6, 0-6.

However, the Sood brothers made it the doubles final in which they will take on compatriots Nehal Kapoor/Gugan Varma pair.

In the girls' section, the Mumbai-based Soniya proved that her last win over Inayat in the first leg final was not a flash in a pan as she again defeated the second seed 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.

Jithmie Jayawickrema overwhelmed local challenger Sarah Mahboob 4-6, 1-6 in the other semi-final.

The pair of Soniya/Inayat stormed in the girls' doubles final by getting the better of compatriots Richa Valecha/ Dipti Shrivastava 6-3, 6-3 to set up a title clash with Sarah/Jithmie, who accounted for Susita Das/Anushka Kapoor 6-2, 6-2.

Results: Boys' doubles semi-finals: Lakshit Sood/Chandril Sood bt Nuttorn Tanchainant/Dussadee Darakamas 6-3, 6-3; Nehal Kapoor/Gugan Varma bt Jugal Marfatia/Sumeet Shinde 6-2, 6-4.
