Punjab Gold Cup: India to take Holland

Chandigarh, Feb 5: India, the host of the Punjab Gold Cup continues to remain in the top position. They blocked the Holland team to a 2-2 draw in Chandigarh. Both teams had played out a 4-4 draw in the first round of the double leg tournament and it was another high voltage encounter.

The European Champions took the lead minutes late in the first half and Jeroen Hertzberger adroitly trapped a long hit in found the net to hammer in with a reverse flick. India's Tushar Khandker and Rajpal Singh kept the forward line going out but a goal was still unseen for India, until the two minutes after the break in the 38th minute when Shivendra slotted in a centre from Pillay.

Shivendra, getting on the end from Prabodh Tirkey managed to put his stick to the ball which rolled in after hitting the goalkeeper"s pads. But Holland was ahead till the 52nd minute with Geert Jan Derik scoring a rebound of his team's second penalty corner. But four minutes later Prabhjot Singh came to India's rescue and made the crowd sizzle.

Both India and Holland which have 8 points each and will contest in the final game. Earlier Germany and New Zealand played a goalless draw. Both teams have two points each.
